Acoustic guitar takes prominence here. The cool is in the texture, not the volume or the hook. Two songs ("Roesbud" and "Lifeline") are about as raw acoustic as the group has ever been. Quite a lot of Grateful Dead feel on this one too, notably on the final cut, "Take Your Mind Off It." Many diverse styles on this little biscuit unified by a common sense of instrumentation -- clearly a transitional record. Transition to what remains unclear. The sinister side of me is secretly hoping for The Evil Grandson of Tom Tom Blues, though I expect this is not the case.
